I was honored to be chosen as one of the top artists in Arizona and got to participate in the Pabst Blue Ribbon PBR Art showcase! Growing up as a child of the 80’s, the classic cartoon Disney movies were and still are some of my all time favorites. I feel like cartoons were different back then. There was not as much politics in everything and therefore people were alot more liberal and less apt to overreact. For example two of my favorite Disney films are Robin Hood and Dumbo and both have scenes where one of the characters get drunk. In Dumbo Timothy the mouse falls into a barrel of ale and gets drunk and In Robin Hood It’s Sir Hiss that is forced into a barrel and comes out drunk. This was my inspiration for my PBR painting. I wanted to do something nostalgic and tie in some of the first memories I have of beer with my love for the delicious beverage now. Using this nostalgic imagery with my signature urban graffiti spray paint back ground, it blends the old with the new giving it multiple juxtapositions. I used the time period accurate beer can in which that movie and beer was made giving it a bit of PBR history in my art. I also love the detail in the can next to the simplicity of the cartoon snake. This just adds another level to piece. I enjoyed coming up with this seemingly simple but thought out concept and painting it even more. A big thanks to PBR for choosing me and being a cool enough company to support and encourage artists around the world to follow their passion and inspire them to make art.
