My Newest painting “CANT BUY LOVE” is a piece I did about Valentines day.  I have never been a fan of Valentines day even when I was in relationships.  I think that it is a materialistic corporate holiday that has been built up to a level that makes one feel obligated to have to purchase flowers, cards, and heart shaped kitschy crap.  I guess that you could chalk that up to my artist rebellious personality and not liking to be told what to do.  I am all for Love and know that it is much needed in every ones lives but I feel like big business have taken this natural human emotion and desire companionship and have capitalized on it to make money.  For my painting concept I wanted two incorporate money and one of the iconic images of valentines day.  I also feel like as a male you feel trapped into having to buy your significant other valentines day “propaganda”.  I chose the rose because I feel like that represents this day perfectly and juxtaposed it with a mouse trap.  I went one step further and made the mouse trap a credit card.  This element was inspired by one of my favorite artists Ron English.  He used this same credit card mouse trap image with Disney’s Mickey Mouse snapped underneath.  I have always been inspired by Ron English’s art and love his clever concepts.  I find myself excitingly upset about his art because I didn’t think of it first.  I was excited to be able to use a little bit of one of his concepts, paying homage to one of the greats.  My ‘Cant buy love” painting was done in my signature unique style of layering elements of spray paint, acrylic and oil paint.  This gives it dimension and allows me to play with shades of complimentary colors.  I guess the one thing I can be happy about Valentines day is that It inspires me to make anti-valentines day art.  “Cant Buy love” is available for purchase email me for more info.  jaredsart@aol.com
